From NJ to PA, Poetry blooms
I've been to a lot of shows over the past few years. Some great, and some a trainwreck.
I've been to shows where the space was packed wall to wall with poets, more than I’ve seen in my entire life. I’ve also been to shows where I was one of 5 people that showed up.
I've been to shows where I was the only poet and everyone in the bar spoke over me. I've also been to shows where there was an audible hush over the crowd when I or other poets spoke.
I've been to shows where we thought the room was going to get sh*t up by one of the performers, and another show where the host told the crowd that his venue loved him so much that he could r*pe every single person in attendance and they wouldn't do anything about it.
I’ve been to shows in dive bars, coffee houses that opened for us after closing hours, 24 hour coffee houses, smoke shops, more bars, a community room next door to a theatre, an old theatre in an art district, a movie theatre, a spooky themed bar, a record store, an indie coffee shop run by a friend. And even more that I’m sure I’m forgetting.
I’ve been to shows all over PA to NJ and made countless friends in each place.
But I never knew that there was a community of poetry until I met Damian Rucci. I was one of the very lucky people to have gone to his shows before the Renaissance and I've gotten to see the scene out there grow and flourish with each new venue and host.
I fell so deeply in love with the incredible scene out there that I brought back some of that magic (and less of the craziness) to PA. We had a small group of poets already working their poetic magic out in PA (Thanks to Daryll, Lynn, Cleveland, Anthony, Brooke, Steven and Billy)
And after spending time out in NJ with my poet family we were able to create something so much larger.
Now we have Noble Quills, 610 poetry, Nowhere as Promised! 3 new poetry centric events focused on building a community of people who love poetry and support eachother.
I wouldn’t be where I am with my writing without having met Damian, Cord, Rebecca W, Tohm, Scott, Steve, etc. All of these people have changed me so thoroughly and I am so proud of everything they are accomplishing. It warms my heart to see new people starting their own mics and supporting everyone in the area and further! I couldn’t be more proud of what they, and we have built and I can’t wait to see what else is in store!
I’m going to try to update this again soon but hey! Drop me a DM if theres anything you want to more about or want more crazy poet stories, or even to elaborate on some I’ve mentioned!
